What to expect at a wedding in Germany???

A Little Guide to German Wedding Traditions

As our families come from different cultures and traditions, we thought it might be helpful to share a few things you can expect at our celebration in Germany.

This wedding will reflect many German customs and traditions that are important to the bride and her family, while our celebration in Morocco will be centred around Moroccan wedding traditions. We also hope to incorporate a few Moroccan traditions into our German celebration as a way of honouring both families and the journey that has brought us together.

During our wedding day, you may notice some of the following traditions:

  • The bride and groom may exchange personal vows during the ceremony.

  • The bride and groom may hug, hold hands, and kiss throughout the day, as public expressions of affection between a married couple are considered a normal and joyful part of German weddings.

  • Guests may be invited to participate in games, activities, or other light-hearted wedding traditions.

  • We will be taking part in the traditional Baumstamm sägen (log-cutting ceremony), which symbolizes working together as a couple to overcome challenges in life.

  • Family members and close friends may give speeches to celebrate the couple and share their wishes for the future.

  • The atmosphere will be relatively relaxed and informal, with a strong focus on spending time together, celebrating, and having fun.

Most importantly, we hope this day will be an opportunity for our families and friends to get to know one another and experience a small piece of each other's cultures.

Thank you for celebrating with us — we are so happy to share this special day with all of you.
